We've had a busy summer and so Suzy and I decided to go for a little weekend get away. As soon as Suzy got home from work on Friday we headed to Strawberry Reservoir to camp. Suzy knew that we were going somewhere but didn't know any details. Isn't life better this way?

We arrived at Strawberry at about 7. The air was crisp and the sky was cloudy. We got right to prepping the briquettes for our dinner - BBQ chicken legs, corn on the cob, and homemade potato salad (I believe that it is imperative that I indicate it is homemade, as it is much too easy to just buy from a store). Now, to enlighten your minds, I am not much of a cook. Let's put it this way: once I messed up a batch of chocolate chip cookies and I WAS following the recipe (it is a sad day when chocolate chip cookies leave one wanting). As the fire crackled and the chicken roasted, Suzy beat me in a game of Five Crowns. Dinner was wonderful! So good, Suzy ate two helpings of chicken. I am proud to say that my first attempt at potato salad was even a success.

| I've never seen Suzy so happy to eat corn before. |

This was fall off the bone deliciousness!
Luckily for us it was probably the best chicken I've ever made. |
As the sun descended below the horizon we hunkered down for the night. Only to be awoken by a monstrous storm. The rain was so loud our tent sounded like a popping pop corn over a loud speaker. And the lightning! Deafening cracks followed by a blaze like the noon day sun. Its in these moments that I couldn't help but marvel, first at the blessing that not a drop snuck past our defenses, second at the majesty of nature.
The next morning we summited Currant Creek Peak. A whopping elevation of 10,554 feet, to put that into perspective, Timp is a measly 11,752 feet :) The best part is that we only had to climb about 750 feet compared to the thousands of feet to climb Timp.

Some of the breathtaking views. My favorite is the one in blue
in the left corner. A part of Strawberry Reservoir can be seen on the right. |

While it was a steep climb up, it was even steeper the way we came down. Let's just say that I now know Suzy isn't much of a fan of steep trail blazing.
Next on the itinerary, stand up paddle boarding at Jordanelle Reservoir. Upon arrival we decided against it because of the cutting winds and the "no dogs" signs posted. Next up... mountain biking at Round Valley in Park City. I was looking most forward to this all day, Suzy less so. Round Valley is a large network of trails near the Sports Complex in Park City. The climbs are always a killer but the rush of flying down the other side is always worth it, at least for me. Suzy's leg doesn't agree with me.

I've never done it, but I guess that it is true. You
can flip over the handle bars if you hit the brakes just right |
Zane did amazing! He ran right along side/behind me the entire way. He ran the entire 6 mile loop and then he slept for the next 13 hours.
 |
| Zane found a mud puddle to cool off in. |
We ended the day with a scrumptious dutch oven chicken pot pie.
 |
Yeah, we cooked it in the oven,
didn't want to deal with getting the fire going. |
Nice socks, Suzy... :)
