The air was cool, the sun wasn't too overbearing, the vegetation was green and everything was going great, until Zane decided to leap from the back of a moving ATV...
I grew up riding ATVs. They were my dad's toys and we frequently gave up the comforts of home to cruise through mother nature. I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything. We've been wanting to do a multi-night ATV trip and so I thought it was only appropriate to see how Suzy and Zane would do on a short ride.
We loaded up the ATVs and headed down to Ephraim to ride a small portion of the Arapeen Trail. With over 350 miles of trail, our little trip was like going to Costco and limiting yourself to only a single sample or like only eating one potato chip - extremely difficult (unless you hate potato chips).
Zane has a difficult time sitting still and he hates to cuddle. So, I didn't really think he would like riding on the back of an ATV, especially if it meant that he had to sit next to us. So we let him run.
It is hard to tell, but his ears are back and he is running at a complete sprint right now. He is still young and couldn't keep it up for too long. I counted on him tiring out and that he would decide that it would be better to ride then to run. But the first attempt went poorly. He sat still for a little bit, and everything was going great, until Zane decided to leap from the back of a moving ATV... And everything continued to go great, except for some of his chin hairs. He hit the ground on his chin and chest. His front legs dragging on the ground under him. Strangely, his hind legs continued to propel himself forward. It was the most bizarre site. And with his face in the dirt, he continued to run for a another four or five feet before getting all four paws underneath himself. He didn't miss a beat, but he is now missing a patch of hair.
By the end of the day he was riding behind Suzy without too much difficulty.
