Brycen and I live below the cutest little family. They have three kids; two young boys and a little girl who's barely old enough to toddle around. At first the kids kept their distance from each other- they were unsure of us, and we wanted to give them time to get used to the idea of new neighbors living under Their house and using Their garbage can. That was actually one of the first conversations I had with the oldest boy. As I took a bag of trash out, he said, "That's our trash can, you know." He was holding a light-saber, but lucky for me he wasn't feeling hostile, just curious. "Yes, and we share it because it's the only one at the house." I said, or something to that effect. "Oh." he said, and I assume he was satisfied with this reply because I haven't met any resistance since then by garbage can guards.
Once Brycen went out to jump on the trampoline with the boys and some of their friends, and it's been love ever since. The boys ADORE Brycen and always come ask if he can play. If I ever say, "no, he's not home. He's at work." then I'm the accepted second choice; "oh, well, can you come jump us then?" But let's face it, Brycen is just so much more fun.
When we drive in from work, we have to be real careful backing in because they can hardly wait for us to get out of the car, and they rush us once the vehicle is parked. They've learned that if the car is there then that means we're home and we can count on a knock shortly after. Brycen shared with me this experience- he had just gotten home and was in the kitchen where he could hear the boys and a friend come outside.
*Gasp!* "Brycen's here!"
Friend: "Are you sure?"
Oldest boy: "Yeah, I can tell!"
Youngest boy: "Yeah, I can smell when Brycen gets home."
What?? I laughed when Brycen told me, and suggested that maybe he needs to shower more. But more likely, the youngest boy just has super powers that I, previously, knew nothing about. Yeah, that's likely it.
I should warn Brycen before he plays hide-and-go-seek with them. He doesn't stand a chance...
That is the cutest thing ever! I love little kids!
