LDS Primary Activity: Secret Service Agent Training!

We're planning an lds primary activity with a service theme, and it has been so much fun to gather ideas! Here's a rough draft of a plan:

Flyer:
Includes a secret password they decode to allow entrance.

Decorations:
Hand scanner at the door (glitter gel in a ziploc)

Opening activity (as they arrive):
One of us stationed at the door asks for password. Welcome child to secret service training. Give them a badge; badge has training items on the back that we sign off on once completed.

Have them choose a code name from two bowls; first bowl is a color, second is a thing (i.e. black ninja, silver quicksand, etc.). The colors have dual purpose because we'll only have 3 of them for splitting into smaller groups later. Write name on badge.

Brief them on the interrogation practice activity while taping a character to their back. Have them scan their hand to gain access to open the door to the gym and go inside.

Interrogation practice (Character taped on their back that they ask yes/no questions to determine who they are. (Like the game head bandz)) someone stationed inside can swap out their character once they've figured it out depending how much time we need before most kids have arrived.

Gather children into rows by their code name color. Do a few warm up exercises, 10 jumping jacks, 10 push ups, then stand in straight rows looking straight ahead (military style, stand sharp! Commander is coming!) (Can even continue to use this through out the day if kids get out of line "drop and give me 10!")

Commander arrives and welcomes the recruits to secret service training. They're embarking on a worthy cause to be agents of God in doing service for their communities. As they go through their rigorous training today, they will see if they can stand up to the challenges and who will come out triumphant!

Your first mission (3 Manila folders marked confidential) is to help us with a biohazard contamination. These envelopes contain your clues to where the contamination has occurred and also your supplies for safely cleaning up the nuclear hazard. Once the biohazard situation is under control, you'll receive your next instruction for further training.

Clues could be maps, or word play that directs them to the right room, or reading through red magnifying glass, white crayon on white paper they color over, so many secret message possibilities. One leader goes with each group to oversee cleaning chairs or toys.

Group black: primary room chairs
Group silver: nursery toys and chairs
Group neon: chairs on stage

Try to make sure each group has roughly the same number of chairs to clean, and separate nursery toys between the rooms for cleaning.

Supplies: Clorox wipes relabeled as biohazard wipes or something fun

Next manilla folder directs them to one of 3 activities, rotation style. Reuse these clues for each group

1. Agent background checks; relief society room (where tables are ready for writing to the missionaries.) Tell the children they will be filing out the required forms to become secret service agents and being fingerprinted. Have writing prompts ready for them to fill out. Need a lot of adult help to write jr responses and manage the ink pads.
Sample writing prompts:
My civilian name is:
Something fun my family has done lately is:
A service I know how to do is:
A cool trick I know how to do is:
Missionaries are like secret service agents because:
I think a secret service agent looks like this (draw picture)

2. Physical Training Obstacle course; outside on north lawn
Have something set up for them to go through one by one. Can time it if they wish. Includes laser beams, tire hop, over/under bars, through hanging hula hoops etc.

3. Target practice and I spy; outside on west parking lot
Water balloons launcher to target
While kids wait their turn, use observation skills to find objects in ispy container.

Gather everyone back into the gym and have them line the walls. In the center pour out black balloon "bombs" that they have to safely detonate AND dispose of the remains.

Line back up in ranks and commander returns to congratulate the recruits on passing their training and becoming full secret service agents. They are now ready to go into the world and perform acts of secret service. (Can bestow a certificate, or sunglasses, something to commemorate the moment).

The final challenge: (this is the part I'm most excited about)
Have several small top secret envelopes with additional service missions to be completed. These are things that they can do to improve their community, like taking cookies to visit a specific new neighbor or offering to take 3 people's trash bins to the curb the day before trash collection day or offering to weed a flower bed (with detailed instructions of which are flowers vs weeds, Haha). Tell the kids that if they will commit to doing whatever is in the envelope, they can come accept an additional mission to complete throughout the week.

End by sending them all to the south lawn to enjoy otter pops while they wait for their parents.
